It seems like every day I hear something else absolutely ludicrous about him, and it's finally got to me! I have been planning a post on him for AGES as no one I know really cares enough to talk to me about it, and I feel if I leave it any longer I may implode. Please humour me; I'm worried for my mental health.
You all know who he is? The next wannabe Republican president of America.
To give you a little more of an idea, he is a Mormon (!) worth £250m, whose possessions include a fully stocked three-yacht garage. A few years ago, he beat up one of the people from LMFAO on an aeroplane (ok, sort of didn't) and he once drove to Canada with the family dog on the car roof in a cage.
Briefly focussing on the LMFAO thing... This is how it all came about...
Sky Blu (from LMFAO) was on a plane with Mitt and he was tired (no doubt from all that partying), so he put his new "Party Rock" jacket over his face and leaned his seat back while the plane was still on the ground. That's when Romney kicked off at him to put the seat upright, before "vulcan gripping" him.
In an interview with MTV Sky Blu said:
"I look at the man, like, 'Are you serious?' And then, boom, Vulcan grip comes out on my shoulder,"
"He Vulcan-gripped me real quick. The man was sitting here and said, 'Sir, put your seat up,' and, pow, and what I did was a Vulcan-grip countermove. I learned this when I was a youngster. Bam, forehead."
So Sky Blu actually hit Romney in the face? "Oh, yeah, I got him," he said. "I went upside his head one time. That was the reaction when you touch me, especially during a heated exchange, I'm gonna have to rearrange your forehead piece."
Mega lolz!
And about the dog thing? Here is what Mitt had to say about that...
"PETA is not happy that my dog likes fresh air."
GOOD.
In any case, it's not really the personal life of Mitt that has got me so riled up. Firstly, it was his stupidity. Here's some more quotes for you:
"I saw my father march with Martin Luther King." (Romney's campaign later admitted that they didn't march on the same day, or in the same city.)
"You sit down with your attorneys and tell you what you have to do, but obviously the president of the United States has to do what's in the best interest of the United States against a potential threat." - On whether he would consult Congress about invading Iran.
"We should double Guantanamo!"
"I'm happy to learn that after I speak you're going to hear from Ann Coulter. That's a good thing. I think it's important to get the views of moderates."- Right before Coulter called John Edwards a "faggot".
Secondly, and most importantly, it's Mitt's knowledge of what is local, and ignorance (or fear) of what is not local that drives me INSANE. His faux pas during his recent trips to England and Israel have been cringey and actually just plain damning:
During his trip to England he questioned the adequacy of British security for the Olympic games, saying that the preparations he had seen were “disconcerting” and that it is “hard to know just how well it will turn out.”... I think it went ok.
Isarael was the worst though! He made a speech before an audience of wealthy potential donors to his campaign, in which he told them that the difference between Israel’s economic achievement and that of the Palestinians was a function of (a) superior Jewish culture and (b) God’s will (cringe). Not one word about the Israeli occupation of Palestine!
This is so outrageous and historically wrong, that I would forgive you for wondering if it was just a publicity stunt. Doubtful though; Romney had long ago aligned his views with his mate and Israel’s right-wing prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu comes from a long line of fanatical Israelis who see the Palestinians as just inferior. And, there is the fact that Romney has publicly stated that his thinking about Israel and the Jews has been shaped by a book written by Don Senor (now a foreign policy adviser to the Romney campaign) titled 'Start-Up Nation– the Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle'. In the book it suggest that Israel succeeded economically because of genetics. Apparantly Jews are just born smart and entrepreneurial!?
Haha! Nice one. The economy of the country definitely doesn't have anything to do with the huge annual donations from the US government, elements of world Jewry and also from crazy Christian Zionists, does it Mitt? No, it's just down to Jewish genes.
SERIOUS.
But the thing is- there is a very strong chance that this man WILL BECOME PRESIDENT on the 6th November, 2012. BE WARNED.
I guess it'll be no surprise to anyone that Urban Outfitters have jumped on the Mitt bandwagon! As if my previous post didn't give us enough reason to boycott them ;):
And there are lots of people who will vote for him! Such as:
Christian Zionists (who outnumber the American Jewish kind)- they will vote for him.
The infamous one per cent, who agree with Mr Romney’s assertion that corporations “are people too” and have the same rights as individuals- they will vote for him.
The “American firsters”, who think Barack Obama is a closet Muslim and no US citizen at all- they will vote for him.
Also, those who also share his knowledge of what is local, and ignorance (or fear) of what is not local- they will vote for him.
Those racists who hate Obama- they will vote for him.
Middle America- they will vote for him.
I'm not saying that Obama is a prime example of excellent presidnecy. But surely, he's the lesser of both evils?
