My Facebook timeline has quite literally been a stream of soft porn for the past few days, and thankfully it's only set to get worse..! I mean, it's Halloween! The time when the Slut Competition begins and everyone is given a free pass to a good old perv. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining; it makes for a great show! And girls, you really have excelled yourselves this year! Or maybe I've just befriended more sluts...
In any case, the whole slut thing? Yeah, guys, bewarned: it doesn't happen for the reasons you might hope. In this post I am taking a look at why women dress like sluts at Halloween. Men, take heed...
Why men think girls dress like sluts at Halloween:
Men are simple creatures. It's easy for them to assume that the way women dress is directly correlated to their level of interested in sex. Give them a break, they have little else to go on. Let's face it, women are wiley creatures, and realistically, men don't understand them anymore than they do The Royal Ballet.
When men see girls dressed in a slutty fashion, they automatically assume that they're doing so to impress guys.
They are wrong.
Why women really dress like sluts at Halloween:
This being said, it is a truism that despite "not wanting to be objectified!", women secretly want to be thought of as attractive on a purely physical level (the kind of "hot" where all men want to have sex with them). Yes, even the most feminist of feminists, the most liberal and the most educated. It's true. And if you don't think so ladies, you're only fooling yourself.
But, in actual fact, what men want doesn't actually matter. It's incidental and unimportant.
No, the real reason women want to be fancied by men is for social status.
Often, for the type of girls who dress like sluts, sex is unnecessary, it's just used as collateral to get something else they want. It's used as a weapon! Beware!
(Of course there are actual sluts out there who dress like sluts and just want sex, but I'd be very careful before you tar all scantily-clad girls with the same brush, boys)
Actually, there’s usually no correlation between dressing like a slut and actually being one. In fact, the two are rarely linked together at all.
For women, the whole point of dressing slutty is for attention. Stereotypically because it fills a childhood void left by their father’s neglect. But also because being the most noticed woman at a club or party gives that woman the most social clout.
Women are also simple creatures, much like men. Generally they just want to be adored.
Rather than attracting adoration through personal achievement, business savvy, or a smart jewellery however, many women simply choose the easy way — by disrupting societal convention.
This is how it works:
When a woman wearing overtly sexy clothes enters a room, men instantly notice whether they want to or not. This involuntary Darwinian reaction drops a load of hormones into the poor guy's system, and he gets all ready to procreate.
This technically is "false advertising" on the woman's behalf, but women aren’t out to deliberately tease men by showing unnecessary amounts of skin; men are actually just collateral damage. Women dress this way because they know men aren’t the only ones who will notice — more importantly, other women will notice (and want to stab the slut repeatedly in the face).
Truth: when it comes to getting attention, women are competitive bitches.
Women display their assets so openly for the same reason men leave their car keys out on the bar — to flaunt them. Women with 34DDs shove them right in the face of less well-endowed women; who in turn, retort by not wearing underwear. It’s an arms race of exposed female flesh, and men benefit most, but not without a lot of confusion.
To be fair, men do the same kind of thing. Like when a man drives a Ferrari Spyder, he’s not doing it because he’s going racing at Le Mans after dinner. He’s driving that car to make other guys look like pathetic Honda Accord-driving losers. It’s pure Darwinism... except with cars.
Revealing clothes accomplish the same thing for women. When all women in a room are of equal attractiveness, the sluttier dressed woman wins the battle for attention. After all, while men notice women pretty quickly in general, they notice women in little to no clothing an 'elleva lot faster.
Sexual attention is a kind of currency that women can use to get free drinks, free meals and pretty much anything else they want. And the girl who gets the most male attention gets her pick of the “fittest” (i.e. richest) men. But not all women dress like sluts to attract the Alpha Male, a lot of them dress to be the Alpha Bitch.
Dressing hot is, first and foremost, about climbing to the top of the beauty-based status structure and outranking other women in the prettiness pecking order. For women, being out in public is like being in a beauty contest, except that the Grand Prize isn’t flowers and a sash, it’s attention domination.
In short, dressing sexy is a power play for girls. They do it to compete in society’s hierarchy of attractiveness. They do it to one-up other women. And they do it to make other women look like asexual prudes. It's sad, but true.
So guys, consider this when you're out and about tonight: that girl in the 6-inch heels and slutty zombie outfit? For goodness sake enjoy it (that's what she wants), but remember she is playing you, and all her "friends".
